INFURIATING, 03 Oct 2008
This is perhaps the most infuriating software I've ever used. Having had problems with earlier editions, I checked out the available books and bought the top choice with the software. I wish I hadn't bothered. Photoshop crashes most times I use it, throws up all sorts of error messages, despite installing it no less than three times. When it does work, the editor takes about five minutes to load, and the whole package is to me totally counter-intuitive. I'm going straight back to Picasa.

My photo editor "history" goes like this:
Elements (original - awful, slugged my PC into the ground)
PSP (very good)
PhotoImpact 12 (quite excellent)
I set out to update PhotoImpact to the latest version only to find there isn't one as Corel bought Ulead and have clearly ditched it (nutters!), leaving PSP and Elements as the two mainstream editors. So I decided to become a drone and buy Elements.
What a pleasant surprise, much better than its original version, nice interface, and not much to relearn over the previous one. The Organiser stuff is pretty much bloatware - I think you're much better just having a neat folder system of your own...
Simply fantastic, 27 Aug 2008
If you want to acheive fantastic results with your pictures, Photoshop Elements 6 is for you. At a fairly low price it has fantastic features for making banners, buttons, posters, collages and many more projects. It installed in no time and was easy to register. The only problem that I have is when going from my picture catalogue to the editor, it can take a little longer than expected, but it is still quite quick.
In two words - simply fantastic!

This software is excellent. I have Windows Vista and this exciting software works just fine. I couldn't be happier with this product. Easy and intuitive and you can pick it up without a manual within minutes.
Wonderful!
adobe 6!, 23 Jul 2008
Bought this a few months ago very difficult to master.
Wanted to transfer raw camera data dynax 5d to tiff or jpeg
wouldn`t transfer to tiff so tried jpeg but there was a problem, the jpeg files were exclusively for web use only so the pics were tiny..
Why cant i buy a simple programme to transfer raw to tiff or jpeg without all these complications?
if u r like me this could prove a dissapoitment!

Good stuff, 26 Sep 2008
I recently bought myself a Macbook, and decided that I needed some quality editing software to go with it. Being a photographer, I opted for Photoshop Elements, as I've heard good reviews about it in the past, and can't afford the full blown Photoshop [ plus, I refuse to download it illegally! ].
So what's this product like? Well, it's a doddle to get onto your Mac. I did it very quickly, and it works absolutely fine. I opened it all up and shoved one of my photographs into the program so I could have a play, and instantly got very confused. To be honest, Photoshop Elements is just a more advanced version of the program I'd used in the past for my work, so I could follow some bits, but I quickly lost it. So many buttons that aren't particularly self explanatory. They took a bit of getting used to, but I'm starting to get the hang of it now.
I think it just needs a bit of practise. You need to sit down and have a good blast; which I unfortunately don't have the time [ or patience ] for.
Good program though!
Great value, 21 Aug 2008
This is great value. I hesitated about purchasing partly because of the reviews, including the ones that say it steals the full screen. If you work in Full Edit mode it does NOT do this (or not on my MacBook at any rate) - the desktop is visible and accessible at the bottom of the screen behind the dock.
I also wondered whether I might end up paying nearly £100 for something that was not a lot better than iPhoto but much less functional than full Photoshop. In actual fact it is a significant advance on iPhoto for image manipulation and does everything I want just as well as the full version would.
The only downside I have encountered is that it is not intuitive to use and the included documentation is poor. To be fair, Adobe do recommend that you use their website Help, but I'd recommend anyone who does not have Photoshop experience to also purchase Barbara Brundage's "Photoshop elements 6 for Mac The Missing Manual".
A Photographer's Dream!, 04 Aug 2008
This is by far the best purchase I've made this year. Apart from the lengthy but not too complicated installation, this is a perfect piece of photo editing software for Digital Photographers and people of a creative nature. I use this program on my Macbook with not to much difficulty at all. It did use a lot of the resources on my laptop when I had a 1G memory but after I upgraded my memory (which was in my plans anyway) to 2G it worked even better. It does say in the box that for optimum use, it needs 1G of memory so don't try running anything else at the same time. I've used CS3 and there are probably 90% of the features on this program. Unless you are a serious professional (e.g. High end sports or nature photographer) then I really would advise you save your money and get this. I'm a semi pro photographer who has sold a quite a few pics and this works perfect! One other slight downside is Adobe's lack of putting a manual in the box. I have bought this manual Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac: The Missing Manual and it is the best manual on the market at a great price! Easy to use, in depth explanations. So if you buy this program then I seriously advise this book too!
complicated, 06 Jul 2008
loads of special effects etc, but it slows your computer down big time, also their semms to be no facility to delete photos & no explanation on how to do it, very complicated.
Sending this back to Amazon, 27 May 2008
I'm running this on Mac OS X (leopard) - sure it installs itself and then does nothing. If you are accustomed to the intuitive nature of Mac applications...you won't find it here. This is your worst nightmare...a Windows app running on your Mac.
It is unable to pull files from iPhoto which means (as far as I can see) you have to convert to jpg and export them to your desk top to use them. More data loss! An attempt to do access you iPhoto file generates an error message (the first I've seen on my Mac!). This also means that the vaunted organisation features of this software are useless. The online help? That's for Windows users....not a word about Mac. Search for "iPhoto" via online help and no results are found. There is nothing in the provided "Getting Started Guide" (this is more a brochure of features than any useful how to guide) about the Mac integration or iPhoto. If you are thinking...."this Adobe Photoshop software is going to be really complicate to use..." then you are spot on! It's useless.

Happy Happy, 02 Sep 2008
I purchased this after the "try before you buy", simply because I found it to be an excellent piece of software.
However, in my experience, to be certain of incident free use, I have disconnected my broadband connection, before stopping the Norton Antivirus. (I only stop the broadband for obvious reasons).
It's a smart piece of software, which makes video editing a breeze, and gives great control over the imported clips.
My advice - use the trial first, and if no issues occur, pay for the licence.
System requirements are very important!!!, 08 Aug 2008
I purchased this product because a very good friend of mine uses it on his laptop, while he is away on business, he is a photographer and graphic designer who sometimes utilises film in his work. I mentioned the reviews mentioned here and he said that he had never experienced any problems i described, he also said that most of the problems sound like they are caused by hardrives that operate at 5400 rpm's that cannot keep up with video editing make sure you are on a 7200 rpm drive. Also you will require a video/graphic card with at least 64Mb of ram.
We run it on an ACER laptop from pc world and it works a treat, we dont have any problems creating, editing rendering or burning and i would recomend it to anyone as long as you have the correct hardware to let the programme run correctly, video editing on the level that premier runs on uses up a lot of memory, your computer will be worked hard keeping up with the things the software allows you to do!
Really awful software, 12 Jun 2008
As with most of the other reviewers here, once installed the software suffers from multiple crashes, very long start up and loading times and if you try to add text to any part of your production, once you click enter you watch the screen through squinted eyes hoping it won't crash. I cannot comment on SDV as I only use HDV from my Sony HDV camcorder (which I do not import directly, but to my hard drive via HDVSplit a free software and then into Elements) but when rendering, it's useful to have a book handy as you'll need to do something whilst the computer chugs away as I have found that for every second shown left remaining whilst rendering, in reality every second is woth five or more. I have tried to burn four DVD's, one after the other to save time, but the system crashed after the first burn stating 'memory allocation error' and I have 4GB of the stuff. I have the latest Intel Quad processor 9450, Gigabyte X48 chipset motherboard, 4GB RAM, a Radeon HD3650 graphics card with 512 onboard RAM and two 400GB hard drives. And it still crashes. If, as per one of the other reviewers here, you have to have the right motherboard/processor/graphics card combination, then your purchase and the successful use thereof will be completely hit or miss (even if you comply with the minimum requirements on the box. Maybe they should state their favourite combination instead of just giving a minimum requirement). When changing a single letter in a rolling title at the end of my compilation due to a mistake on my part (bad proof read), it took one and a half hours to render, whereupon I found another two mistakes after the rendering, again independently, and so to change them took another three hours, so I spent the whole evening just editing three single letter mistakes. It's a soul destroying process.
For a company like Adobe (for which I used Premiere Elements 2 with absolutely no problem and currently use CS3 Collection) it is really disgusting and for which the should be utterly ashamed. Do not (as mentioned by others) in any way, shape or form waste your money on this product until at least a patch or 5 comes out and only then after it has been fully tested and there are positive reviews. I would like to give zero stars, but you can't.
I am an extremely unhappy punter.
Fingers crossed - no problems yet., 26 Apr 2008
On a Vista Home Premium machine I've had no problems with this package so far. I've edited 1 hour 15 minutes of video (6 scenes) with transitions and burnt to DVD (2 copies) with a menu. After that, 20 minutes with titles, effects, transitions, soundtrack and narration and burnt to DVD as well as saving as AVI. I have used Pinnacle Studio V9 on an XP machine in the past - that used to fail regularly but I got by with it. Premiere Elements 4 is like a professional product compared with that. I am very pleased I wasn't swayed by the negative reviews. I thought it necessary to say that it does work for me. I'd give it five stars but I haven't been using it long enough for that.
POWERFUL PC, TECH` SUPPORT-(many hours/days),..--P` ELEMENTS 4 A DISASTER!!, 12 Apr 2008
My view, as the title intimates, Premiere Elements 4 DOES NOT DO WHAT IT SAYS `ON THE BOX`, this product was obviously NOT tested on `real world` pc`s, I have 3 SATA discs, QUAD cpu, Gigabyte 8800GT, 4GB fast memory and have done everything suggested by the friendly Adobe support staff, SOUND OUT OF SYNC, NO CURE, my view is DON`T TOUCH PREMIERE ELEMENTS 4 WITH A BARGEPOLE (unless you want grey hairs),it simply cannot handle High Definition material,... DON`T JUST TAKE MY WORD FOR IT,CHECK OTHER SITES,..there are very few praises for this product.
Adobe Photoshop is a great product, ADOBE PREMIERE ELEMENTS 4 IS A DISASTER AND COMPLETELY UNUSEABLE FOR HIGH DEFINITION, believe me, I have tried it extensively!!

Good, 06 Sep 2008
Perfection!, 15 Aug 2008
Realy Good For A Cut Down Version, 30 Aug 2008
This is a realy good i have the older version of photoshop but the same version of Premeir they both work realy well but some times premier freezes but im sure there is proberly a update witch is included in this bundle. Realy Good
Good but not as a bundle, 12 Jun 2008
Elements 6 is great, it is friendly stable and productive. I have to say that it doesnt seem to offer that much more than 5 though.
However, as a bundle this is really poor. Premiere 4 is VERY unstable and slooooow even on high spec machines. Avoid the bundle and but Elements on its own or even gor for Elements 5 which might be cheaper but isnt Vista compatible.
WARNING, 29 Mar 2008
Why has this amazing software package increased by £15.00 on amazon? It was listed for £99.99 yesterday. Without it being on sale before it seems unreasonable for AMAZON to simply up the prices like this...
Good choice for advanced home user, 21 Feb 2008
While good to get you going, the photo and video packages often bundled with PCs etc really don't give you anything advanced and easy to use (I mean the budget editions that usually cost about £25 to buy separately).
So after deciding that I no way need the mega-functionality of professional packages (even if I could afford splashing out several hundred pounds on one!) I looked into reviews from a number of different sources on a couple of mid-range packages but the only way to really know is to try one out first before buying.
Adobe have a try-before-buy scheme for stuff like this on their website (the Pro versions and the Elements versions of PhotoShop and Premier are available) although the file downloads are naturally very big. It was after trying these that made me buy the Elements bundle.
I spent pretty much a whole weekend with the trial version (which is fully featured with a 30day timeout) editing holiday photos and video clips trying out various features - it's really quite intuitive to use and (so far) I haven't had any of the crashes that others have experienced so for me it gets a thumbs up.
Surprisingly, ordering from Amazon was a couple of pounds cheaper than buying the unlock codes direct from Adobe and also gets you the installation DVD and manuals. Note though that you have to uninstall the downloaded time-limited version and then reinstall from the disk as the licence codes with the disk won't unlock the downloaded time-limited version.
Superb product apart from the lack of AVCHD support , 28 Nov 2007
This product trumps the competitors in my view, in having the ability not only to organise both still pictures and video footage in one system, but also to use either type of media easily in whatever you are making. It is easy to make anything from a DVD to a website, or output to numerous devices such as mobile phones or PDAs.
Most importantly for irreplaceable stills and clips it has excellent backup (with verification) facilities, including backing up to anything from a hard drive to a blue ray disc and everything in between.
The photo editing tools and video editing tools are for the most part the same as the top of the range professional versions from Adobe, however much more simple to use. The Premiere Elements part (video editing) has a particularly simple interface compared with most products, despite having very wide-ranging capabilities. I would have given 5 stars except..
The one big howler is the inability to edit video from the latest Sony and Panasonic high definition camcorders which record to memory chips (AVCHD format) and which I believe will ultimately dominate the upper end of the "prosumer" market because of their wonderful picture quality, portability and lack of moving parts (lens excluded).
Therefore if Adobe introduce this capability, or if you are confident you'll never use the AVCHD format then this is, I believe, the best product for enthusiastic amateurs.
